Bio-Medical Enginnering

As in biomedical science, pioneering industrial inventions have not been mothered by necessity. Rather, inventions for which there was no commercial use only later became the commercial airplanes, xerography and lasers on which modern society depends.

vision

“To emerge as a centre of quality education, training, research and entrepreneurship in Biomedical Engineering”.

mission

Biomedical Engineering deals with the area of research and designing of medical equipment applying methods of modern technology. Diploma in Biomedical Engineering course renders the students with the opportunity to understand the intricacies involved in managing the working of different types of machinery used in Medical field.

The diploma program is designed in a manner to inculcate in students the fundamentals points of handling operation devices to carry out functions such as dialysis, maintaining life-saving devices like ventilators. They are trained to become skilled technologists and imbibed the skill to carry on research for developing refined means of conducting the procedures.

Diploma in Biomedical Engineering course is divided into theory and practice. Starting with basics of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, the students are trained in computing fundamentals, workshop and operating systems. At the end of first year students take advanced courses like Graphics, Basis electronics, and more than adequate practical knowledge of software, hardware and interfacing techniques.

At the end of the third semester, students take courses like Electrical technology, Digital Electronics and basics of medical science. At the end of 2nd year students take Programming in C, Microcontroller and Interfacing lab and Mini projects. The topics are covered through the courses includes Human physiology, development and design stages of Medical imaging, Pharmaceutical drugs and so on.

The Advanced Biomedical Laboratory has facilities such as Embedded Patient Monitoring System, Image Processing Work Station, Respiratory Analyzer and Nerve Simulator. The process control laboratory has workstations for temperature, pressure, flow and other control parameters. After the completion of fifth semester students were trained in courses like Therapeutic Equipments, Biomaterials and Prosthetic devises and Embedded systems

In the final semester, with prior sound knowledge of hardware, software and industrial exposure, the students carry out their final year working projects. Along with that they study advanced subjects like Biomems and Nano Technology, Hospital systems, Medical imaging etc.

Students after the completion of Diploma in Biomedical Engineering are hired as Design Engineer, Marketing Professional, Biomedical Engineer, Research Engineer, Quality Control Engineer, and much more in government and private firms. They can choose to work for a large medical device company (Philips, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, etc) and startups working on a specific application, consumer companies (Apple, Fitbit, Google, Samsung) working on wearable/health applications. However, as a fresher Biomedical engineer engineer you can earn about Rs 3 to 5 lakhs per annum.
