The Department of civil engineering was established with the main aim of providing professional civil engineers to the Nation. The mission of this department is to
- Shape infrastructure development with societal focus, as the field of Civil engineering occupies an essential position in the socio-economic development of the nation.
- Achieve International/National recognition in the academic and industrial field, by developing future civil engineers and interacting with industry with emphasis on Research and Development.
Civil engineering is perhaps one of the oldest branches of engineering and primarily deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. Advances in this area have brought many specializations like environmental engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, urban engineering, materials engineering, survey and construction engineering etc.
The students normally have a conceptual understanding of space and its utilization. The stress of the programme is in developing fluency in mathematics, physics, instrumentation, computers, management and economics. Civil engineers focus on design, construction and maintenance.
In today’s world the role of civil engineering is changing as issues of housing, urban development, planned cities and construction using alternative materials for cost reduction and appropriate usage of environment friendly materials etc gain attention. The students at PAACET are inculcated into the scientific aspects of civil engineering with focus on the social demands and protection of environment.
The Dept of Civil Engineering, PAACET offers a friendly and welcoming environment for its students. During study at the department, the students are encouraged to get hands-on experience in the real world problems through internships and projects with reputed organizations. In their curriculum they are encouraged to take up mini projects to supplement theoretical knowledge with practical experience. These projects enable them to understand the relevance of working in a group and also help them to realize the finer aspects and importance of teamwork. We are confident that our current curriculum has enabled overall development of budding engineers to come up to the expectations of the rapidly changing world.

After undergoing the common subjects in basic sciences in the first two semesters, the students undergo courses in building drawing, surveying and leveling, structural analysis and design, strength of materials, open channel hyadraulics and concrete technology in semester 3 & 4. In semesters 5 & 6 the students are trained in computer aided design and drawimg, numerical analyzis and programming methods, highway railway and airport engineering, bridge engineering, geotechnical and foundation engineering, environmental engineering, hydraulics and water resource engineering. All these courses are supplemented with laboratory work. In the final year the students are trained on the design and drawing of various hydraulic structures, steel structures and RCC structures. Elective papers on IT related subjects and finite element method add to the versatality of the curriculum thus we provide both the academic background and practical experience to set on the path to become an excellent civil engineer with good prospects in INDIA and abroad. The laboratory practical work of this course includes surveying, strength of materials, concrete technology, computer aided design and drafting, open channel hydraulics, hydraulic machinery, geo technical, transportation and environmental engineering.
