B.Tech Lateral Entry

Lateral Entry Program is an innovative program, in which students who have completed a 3-year Diploma in Engineering can take admission and get B. Tech. degree in just three years.

B.Tech is a graduation course in the field of engineering. This is a technical course of 4year duration. Students who have a diploma in engineering can take admission through lateral entry. They will be promoted to the second year of the graduation course. However, they first need to check whether the lateral entry is provided by the college or not.

During the diploma in engineering, students learn all the basic concepts of the field. They also learn the skills and practical applications of the concepts in the course. So, they have specific knowledge of the subject. Thus they are more suitable than the regular 12th pass students. However, a diploma course does not provide you with deep knowledge of your field. After completing the B.Tech through the lateral entry, a student has more skills and knowledge of their stream. They have higher chances of getting a job in their core sector than regular students. Sometimes, they even get more salary.

B.Tech lateral entry allows students to pursue the programmes from the second year offered by various engineering colleges and universities in India. Only students who have completed a Diploma in any of the engineering disciplines are allowed to apply for admission to pertinent B.Tech course through lateral entry.

Diploma engineering courses can provide early entry into the job market right after high school. However, the decision to pursue a diploma course may simply be prompted by missing the academic grade required for entry into degree courses or sometimes financial constraints. After gaining work experience, several engineering diploma holders tend to pursue lateral B.Tech in a bid to ensure faster promotions and avoid stagnancy in career growth.

Doing B. Tech after polytechnic is a great option for those looking to gain not only an in-depth knowledge of the field, but also to have great career opportunities. Pursuing B. Tech after polytechnic will greatly increase an individual’s employment chances.

A candidate after completing a polytechnic course can opt for B.Tech after Polytechnic. This would help a candidate in getting an in-depth knowledge of the specialization in which the candidate has completed a polytechnic course. After successful completion of the course if a candidate opts for a B.Tech after Polytechnic, the candidate gets lateral entry into the second year of the B. Tech programme.

If we look at the present scenario, there are lots of advantages for those students who have done their polytechnic and the B. Tech programme. Those students who are interested in pursuing a B. Tech programme after polytechnic can do so by either of the two options. Students can get into a B. Tech programme through lateral entrance examination or the engineering entrance examination.

If the student takes admission through lateral entry, then he or she will directly gain entry in the second year of the B. Tech programme. One needs to remember that the lateral entry examination is a state-level examination.
